He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep Psalm 121:3-4 Our awesome God; He never sleeps. But we do. He created us in just that way. We are to awake each day and be useful, useable, obedient and fruitful in some fashion, and then we are to rest in the evening so we can do it again tomorrow. It seems like the Lord must grow restless for our company, as He is always awake and waiting for us to get back to Him. He greatly desires our love, attention and sweet fellowship, yet regrettably, He spends far to much time waiting for us to rise and come to Him. I believe that it why He loved Jesus so much, because of His devotion to His Father. The gospels are replete with lessons teaching of Jesus' regular practice of spending time alone and often with God the Father. Jesus, when he was a man, had to rest, but He did all his human body could to minimize His Father's waiting. The Father who never sleeps was waiting for the Son who loved to rise and spend time with Him. Our Lord's lesson also shows that, on occasion, He stayed up all night so that the Father would suffer no time apart from the Son. God appreciates your early mornings and late nights spent with Him. Your lack of natural sleep is a sacrifice of love offered in a right spirit that reaps an immeasurable gain! Have you kept your Savior waiting? He no longer sleeps as He once did on earth. He is waiting -- waiting for you! Is your day too full? Rise early then, and He will meet you and give you the energy and the time -- miraculously. Those times you do shortchange your body of rest, He will make them all the more special. Those dark, quiet hours before the cares of the world latch on to you or before they force heavy eyes to close are the Lord's time. Don't keep Him waiting -- your time is His time -- all the time. |
