But the sons of Israel acted unfaithfully in regard to the things under the ban, for Achan . . . took some of the things under the ban, therefore the anger of the LORD burned against the sons of Israel.      Joshua 7:1

There is an old expression that says, "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.''   If I were an apple, I might consider my fate rightly related to a putrid rotting colleague oozing all over my shiny red surface, threatening my very existence.  But as Achan's human non-fruit neighbor, I would be mighty upset to learn that 36 men died because he succumbed to a fit of greed.

Does it seem unfair to have your actions so significantly effect the very lives of others?

If my liver suddenly develops a consciousness, and then proceeds next to exhibiting a bad attitude and finally stages a wildcat strike, won't I be in mortal danger?  Silly question - Of course!  Why?  Because my "vital" organs are called "vital" for a very good reason.  The body of Christ, when rightly related, will be as interdependent as I am with my good ol' buddy Mr. Liver.

So, does that mean that if my Christian brother or sister is in a bad situation and I feel no pain, that I am having an "out of the Body-of-Christ" experience?  Ouch!  Help my unbelief Lord Jesus!  Your Body is in mortal danger!  What is the cure Lord!

1 John 3:2  We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

It goes without saying that in order to see someone appear, you must be in the same location as they are; their presence is obvious.  Look for Him (Jesus!) and He will be found by you.  Look with the passionate pursuit of one looking for a pearl of great price, for He is so much more valuable.
