Introduction to the
Goodsoil Discipleship Ministry

Ephesians chapter 4 describes for us what Jesus determined as the operating elements for His Church, His Body.  Some are to be apostles, while others are called to be prophets.  The really brave and fearless ones (in my meager estimation) are to be evangelists.  Still others will be pastors and teachers of His flock.  Finally, embracing the whole Body, Jesus Himself called all that follow Him to be disciples.  He gave us a very clear picture of what that would entail.  There will be difficulties, trials, persecutions, and yet an unyielding commitment would be required.  We are told that we must love Jesus more than anything else -- period.  Further, lest we forget our task, we must daily take up a burden that Jesus called our cross and follow Him, or we would not be worthy of Him.  That's hard, but that's what He said!  He also told us that we would carry this cross while navigating a narrow and difficult road which, at the end, has a correspondingly narrow gate.  None of what He described has changed one bit.

But take heart, because the obedient disciple will have many blessings too!  They key is to recognize God's blessings for what they are, and that takes spiritual vision, not merely human vision.  His spiritual blessings are not only those things that we recognize, but they are often hidden under the surface of  things, like the pearl of great price.

The "Goodsoil" ministry has simplicity as a primary goal, and so, to achieve this, I ask your indulgence to simply do the following:  Follow Him (Jesus), Obey Him, and most importantly, Love Him intimately.  That's all; simple but not easy.

As you read through these "Discipletters" (combining the words "disciple + letters"), discipleship lessons and devotions, continually refresh yourself with the thought that Jesus, His Father (God), and His Spirit are all sitting around you and watching you and waiting for you to say, "O.K. Lord, I'll do it!"

These writings are not meant to be terribly profound, but are simply meant to be read by those who desire to more fervently desire (with a burning desire!) to be more like Jesus every second of every minute of every day.  Will you stumble and trip and scrape a knee or two?  If my own walk is any indication, the answer is a truthful "yes," but that shouldn't be a big surprise.  Just don't quit!  There are no excuses if you do.  God gives us an escape route every time, no matter how impossible or defeating a situation may be (1 Cor 10:13).

Remember this helpful lesson; faith and obedience are inseparable.  If you believe, you will surely obey.  But if your faith seems lacking, then just obey anyway, and God will help you believe.  See, it's that simple!  Even those of "little faith" can obey.

I pray that every letter, comma and thought expressed on the pages of this ministry will build you up in the most holy faith (Jude 20), and keep you in Christ Jesus until He comes again -- soon!
